Nita's workshop description

A brief introduction to Relational Intelligence in Contact Improvisation

This one-day workshop will introduce dancers to body-based practices that rethink and retrain our relational skills through understanding how our embodied states influence our communicative impact and abilities. This material stems from 5 decades of movement work formed on the ground of contact improvisation. Our work in this single day offers dancers the recognition that moving well together allows us to become more than single beings. Expanding who we are together frames what we can be and what can arise in the immediacy and vitality of each moving moment.

*Contemplative Dance Practice, developed by Barbara Dilley, is a simple yet profound practice of moving meditation. It works with the innate intelligence of the body, psyche and imagination, and their drive for wholeness and integration. We pay attention to the body and invite it to lead into movement or stillness, suspending self-criticism and cultivation awareness. We may move, or be moved, into deeper streams of consciousness. As we practice, the artificial boundaries between body, psyche and spirit begin to dissolve and we discover aspects of ourselves and our lives from fresh perspectives. As we practice with others, we develop an appreciation for the diversity of human experience.
